How do you check uPVC quality?
Check four things: the profile grade, the hardware, the security testing and the installer’s credentials. Class A profile to BS EN 12608 has exposed walls of at least 2.8 mm, a good door has a multipoint lock with an anti-snap cylinder, and the installer should be registered and offer a guarantee.
What can I check by eye?
- Clean, even welded corners
- Even gaps around the door when closed
- Continuous gaskets with no breaks
- A solid feel, with no flex in the frame
- Smooth lock and handle operation
What should the paperwork show?
- A Certass or equivalent certificate for the install
- The guarantee terms and length
- Test evidence such as PAS 24, if security is claimed
- The declared U-value of the door
Does a thicker profile mean a better door?
Not by itself. If you want more detail, ask to see the profile data sheet and the glazing unit specification. Wall thickness, steel reinforcement and fit quality all count. JMF Windows Oxford is Certass registered, with a 10-year guarantee on every uPVC door.
