Can you just replace a uPVC door?
Yes, you can replace the door leaf alone when the frame is sound, square and the right size. Otherwise, a full new doorset is the more dependable route, because the door, frame and seals are designed as a matched set.
When is door-only replacement sensible?
- The frame has no cracks, splits or bowing
- The opening is square within a few millimetres
- The fault lies in the leaf rather than the frame
- You are happy to keep the same style and colour
Why can door-only replacement disappoint?
A new leaf must be made to measure for the old frame, which can narrow the price gap with a full doorset. Worn keeps, seals and thresholds also stay, so draughts may continue.
Is sign-off still required?
Yes. In England a replacement external door must meet the Building Regulations, including the energy limits in Approved Document L, and be certified through a scheme or the council. JMF Windows Oxford is Certass registered.
How do I know which route to take?
