Which door is better, aluminium or composite?
Neither is better outright: composite doors usually insulate better and suit a traditional front door, while aluminium doors give slimmer frames, bigger glass and longer frame life. Choose composite for a warm, solid door, and aluminium for a contemporary look or large glazing.
How do aluminium and composite doors compare?
| Feature | Aluminium | Composite |
|---|---|---|
| Frame life | 30 to 45 years | Commonly 25 years or more |
| Insulation | Good with a thermal break | Good, thanks to the foam or timber core |
| Look | Slim, contemporary | Panelled, traditional or modern |
| Glass area | Large | Smaller |
Which is more secure?
Both can reach PAS 24 and Secured by Design standards. The lock, cylinder and fitting matter more than the material.
Which lasts longer?
Aluminium frames are commonly quoted at 30 to 45 years. Composite doors are often quoted at 25 years or more, depending on the build and the care taken.
Which is lower maintenance?
Both need little more than cleaning and hardware checks. Composite can fade over time. Aluminium keeps its finish. Our installations come with a 10-year guarantee, and Jake surveys each job himself before a specification is agreed.
