What trend is replacing bifold doors?

Slim-framed sliding doors, including lift-and-slide systems, are the main alternative homeowners are choosing instead of bifold doors. They offer larger panes of glass, fewer joints and a cleaner look. The catch is that part of the opening always stays closed. See our sliding doors for the options.

Why are people choosing sliding doors over bifolds?

    • Larger panes of glass with slimmer sightlines.
    • One or two moving leaves instead of several folding ones.
    • No leaves stacking into the room or garden.
    • Level thresholds are available on many systems.

    What other options replace bifolds?

    • French doors: a traditional, simpler pair that opens fully clear.
    • Fixed glazing beside a single opening door, for a modern look with fewer moving parts.
    • Pivot or large-format single doors on bigger openings.

When does a bifold still make sense?

A two-pane sliding door opens about half its width, while a bifold can open most of the wall. If a fully clear opening matters more than the view when closed, a bifold is still the better choice. Jake surveys every job himself, so the opening, threshold and structure are checked before anything is ordered.
