Are aluminium doors worth it?
Yes, aluminium doors are usually worth it if you want slim frames, large glass and a long life, with frames commonly quoted at 30 years or more. They cost more than PVCu and need a thermal break to insulate well. For a standard front door without large glazing, a composite door may give better value.
What do you get for the extra money?
- Strong, slim frames that allow more glass.
- No warping, rotting or repainting.
- A powder-coated finish in a wide range of colours.
- A long frame life when the hardware is maintained.
When might aluminium not be worth it?
- A basic front door, where composite insulates well at lower cost.
- Homes that want a traditional timber look.
- A tight budget, where a PVCu door meets the same Building Regulations.
What should the specification include?
Ask for a thermal break, a PAS 24 test certificate, a multipoint lock with a 3-star cylinder, and a quality powder-coat finish. Coastal sites need a marine-grade finish. Our installations come with a 10-year guarantee, and Jake surveys each job himself before a specification is agreed.
